The Bath Volunteer Fire Department responded to a call for a structure fire at 137 East William Street at approximately 6:45am this morning. Upon arrival of the first officer witnessed heavy smoke coming from the building with one female occupant standing out front of the residence. Mutual Aid was given by Hammondsport and Savona Fire Departments to the scene with The Bath VA Fire Department standing by for Bath in case of another call. The owner and occupant Sandra Frazier was transported by Bath Volunteer Ambulance to Ira Davenport Hospital in Bath for treatment of smoke inhalation. The fire was contained to one room of the home, however there was heavy smoke and heat damage throughout the first floor. Ms. Frazier will be reportedly staying with friends. The preliminary cause of the fire is believed to be a propane space heater but is currently under investigation.
